Here, we talk to Nitya to find out more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I launched the brand in December 2015. The former name of the brand -Ruche & Hues is now known as Nitya Biswas
Whats your background?
I (Nitya Biswas) have a BA in design. Although I majored in Interior design but after passing out from my college and 3 years training in the design industry I joint a Fashion Buying house in India where I learn the technical skills. I worked there for 7years before I started the process of formulating a company of my own.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
We are a team on 4 people other than the departments outside office.
A silent partner who works as an advisory in the firm.
One digital merchandiser handling all the online queries as my presence is mainly digital as of now.
As offline merchandiser taking care of my sampling & production.
A assurance executive for the product.
I handle the design/ marketing myself as they are two main pillars of a successful business and I would like to like an handwriting before delegate it to someone else.
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
Not really. Working in the international fashion industry for 7years, I learnt the industrial standards and the techniques. Other than my design skills I know I am an entrepreneur, always ready to take up challenges and bare risks. I like to work on a fast pase and delegating work to too many people slows me down.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
The hardest thing I have faced in 1.5years into setting up a brand is trying dodge companies/ professionals / PR showrooms who are waiting to know about an emerging designer/brand in the market, offer them what exactly they would need to take their brand a step forward, take the money and deliver zilch and people like us cannot do anything about it.
Looking at the market scenario the investments and sale both are very low at this point of time and I to top it all collaborating with most of these sales/ PR showrooms is the worse thing which would happen to an emerging designer/brand.
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I actually started this brand at my hardest of time in my personally life. My brand is my baby and design each and every bag myself and also make the first piece myself along with my artisans working in my factory. Each bead is selected and bought my me personally. I want to make a handwriting for my brand and then delegate it in a few years.
2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
My brand presence can is found in most of the countries on a lot of luxury e-boutiques/ marketplaces. But that doesn’t solve my purpose. My bags are very intricately carved and one can only make out the worth of the bag by holding it in their hands. My goal for 2017 is to get as many offline stockist for my collection all around the world.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Its been 1.5 years since the brand came about, and you can see my collection in New York/ LA/ San-Francisco/ Spain/ London/ Paris/ Milan, India- Hyderabad/ Mumbai/ New Delhi. Soon to be in Dubai. We have made presence in AW16 Magic show in LV, had a consumer show during NYFW SS17, Presence in PFW SS17. We have been covered in international magazines print and digital from Slovenia Magazine/ Vogue USA/ Vogue UK/ Volition Magazine LA, House Of coco UK, Harper Bazaar Bridal india (Twice). Have celebrities carry our bags for red-carpet events like Golden Globe Award 2017, Oscars 2017, Movie premiers and more…
Its been a good year, yet a long way to go!
